The Segway Personal Transporter (PT) is the first of its kind – a self-balancing, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. Segway PTs are easy to use and operate and usually takes new riders 10 minutes of training to learn. (Watch the How it works video)
Segway PTs leverage high-tech gyroscopes that monitor your balance 100 times a second and automatically respond to your body’s movements. To move forward, the rider simply leans forward. To stop or slow down, the rider leans back slightly.
The Lean Steer Technology allows riders to glide smoothly as the Segway PT senses where you want to go and responds to your movements. (Read more on our How it works page)

Segway PTs are lithium ion battery-powered. You can charge your Segway PT from a standard outlet. We recommend surge-protected power strips or a grounded internal system, along with a timer to limit the charging process to eight (8) hours per day to protect your investment. It takes 3 to 4 hours to fully charge an empty battery.
Yes. Segway PTs are designed to operate on a variety of surfaces and terrain, anywhere people walk. Tires are non-marking. The Segway PT i2 can fit through most standard doorways. The operation is clean and quiet and outputs zero emissions.
Each Segway PT is equipped with two operational settings: “beginner” or “turtle” mode and “standard” mode. The beginner setting is set to 6 mph/13 (kp/h) and the standard setting is set to a maximum speed of 12.5 mph (20 kp/h).
On a single charge, the PT i2 can travel up to 24 miles (38 km). The Lithium Ion batteries allow for rides up to 24 miles between charges approximately 3 to 4 hours.
Travel distances depend on payload, riding style, and terrain. Segway PT batteries leverage regenerative braking to recharge when traveling downhill.
Segway PTs are assembled at the Segway Corporate Headquarters in Bedford, NH.
